Coco Gauff of the United States will vie for a ticket to the quarterfinal round against Belinda Bencic of Switzerland on Sunday at the 2025 Australian Open. Gauff rolled to her 10th consecutive victory as she dispatched Leylah Anne Fernandez 6-4 6-2. The American unleashed a full arsenal of her weapons against the Canadian, winning 89 percent of her first serves and converting four break points. Gauff also recorded five aces, raising her ace tally to 20 in the tournament. Bencic clinched a spot in the round of 16 after her third-round opponent, Naomi Osaka, retired due to an abdominal injury. Bencic rallied from a 5-2 deficit as Osaka struggled to move around the court because of the discomfort in her abdomen. Bencic completed the comeback by winning the first set tiebreaker, which prompted a visibly disappointed Osaka to withdraw from the match. Osaka had also withdrawn from her match with Carla Tauson of Denmark in the final of the 2025 ASB Classic. On the other hand, Bencic matched her career high at the Australian Open by reaching the round of 16 for the third time.
