A few days after the violent attacks on two carnival-goers in Goyave and Pointe-à-Pitre, new measures were announced to ensure the safety of Guadeloupeans. The city of Pointe-à-Pitre is mobilizing with banners and texts expressing the refusal of violence. They were placed this Saturday morning all along rue Frébault.

A young man hit with several punches and kicks, a fight where certain members of the Morne Bourg Mass group. Following this serious incident, the prefecture banned the group from marching this weekend.

Attacks during but also on the sidelines of the carnival. Last Sunday was supposed to be festive, it was discredited. When po groups rushed into the streets of Pointe-à-Pitre, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed several times in the throat. A tragedy.

So to contain the phenomenon, the prefect does not rule out banning certain parades and certain groups. But before reaching this extreme, the city of Pointe-à-Pitre is mobilizing. First with banners and texts expressing the refusal of violence. They are placed all along rue Frébault.

But the action goes further and appeals to everyone's conscience. Because these banners are intended to be a symbol as well as places for reflection as groups pass by.

And to convey this message, Brigitte, the mother of Kimael, the young man horribly killed last Sunday, is also present. To remind us that a tragedy like that of last Sunday has a considerable impact on society.

And so that there is a semblance of peace in this Guadeloupe carnival, new measures will be taken. Measures to ensure greater safety for carnival-goers.

We will emphasize deterrence, police presence and everything that goes with it.

Other actions are planned by the City of Pointe-à-Pitre with six events mobilizing artists and speakers known in the world of the arts in particular.

This weekend, Vaval is going for a walk in northern Basse-Terre. See you in Sainte-Rose this Sunday. Kannaval Lima'ss will celebrate its fifteenth edition this year. Around forty groups are expected in the streets of the town. Northern Grande Terre will also be celebrating. So be careful.
