Borussia Dortmund: Can bursts his collar – captain attacks referee

Borussia Dortmund is tumbling further and further into crisis. The black and yellow also lose at Eintracht Frankfurt. At 0-2 you appear to be in a better mood than against Kiel – but you still concede the goals like an inferior amateur in the first round of the cup.

After the final whistle there was a wild scene. Emre Can argued with the referee for minutes. The “chat” even moved into the catacombs. The captain of Borussia Dortmund exploded on the DAZN microphone.

Borussia Dortmund: Can calls for a penalty

“I don’t understand how you can’t give a penalty scene like that,” complained the BVB star on the microphone. “I was just in the dressing room and spoke to the referee. He still thinks it’s not a penalty,” he says with an almost ironic laugh.

What had happened? In a scene from the second half, Jamie Gittens entered Eintracht Frankfurt’s penalty area at high speed. Nnamdi Collins then brought him down with a lot of physical effort. But Daniel Schlager’s whistle remained silent.

Not the only scene that brought up Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows would also have liked to see an alleged hold by Arthur Theate against Serhou Guirassy (read more about him here) as a punishable foul play. Again nothing happened.

BVB disadvantaged?

The Gittens scene in particular just didn’t leave Can alone. “If you go into the penalty area at what feels like 36 km/h and then make contact like that – there’s no penalty? “I don’t understand,” the captain couldn’t believe it. When DAZN showed a replay of the whole thing, Can, desperate for approval, asked the interviewer: “What are you saying?”

And it went even further: “You have to have the courage here in Frankfurt to go out as a referee and watch the scene. When he says, “It’s nothing,” I can understand it.”

But that evening Emre Can was not heard. After their third defeat in a row, Borussia Dortmund are rushing into the second half of the table – and urgently need to make sure they don’t miss out on international business.
