French politician Didier Guillaume died at the age of 65 “from a devastating illness that occurred during his hospitalization,” the Principality of Monaco revealed in a press release this Friday. Minister of State appointed by Prince Albert II since September 2024, equivalent to a position of head of government, he had since ceased to exercise his responsibilities in January because he had to undergo “medical treatment”.
Part of a political career in his native Drôme
The man who had spent his entire career in Drôme, where he was born, had been mayor of Bourg-de-Péage, general councilor, regional councilor, before becoming president of the general council of Drôme, then senator, where he was vice-president of the chamber, and finally minister of Agriculture and Food (2018-2020), in the government of Édouard Philippe, during the first five-year term of Emmanuel Macron.
