For the second time in its history, SpaceX managed to recover the propellant from one of its rockets on Thursday January 16. This success was tarnished by the explosion of a Starship.
-In Boca Chica (Texas, United States), Thursday January 16, the propellant of a SpaceX rocket was recovered with perfect control. The mission is successful for SpaceX, Elon Musk's mega rocket for the second time in its history. The employees' enthusiasm was cut short as a few minutes later, the second part of the rocket exploded in the sky. “We can confirm that we have lost the Starship”explains Kate Rice, engineering systems quality manager at SpaceX.
Starship took off from Texas for the seventh time on Thursday and reportedly lost its second stage, due to an oxygen or fuel leak, according to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. This new demonstration takes place the day after the first takeoff of Jeff Bezos' rocket, founder of Amazon. The two men are competitors for the private conquest of space.
