The Country proposes to create a “ tax exemption scheme on the added value applicable to operations contributing to the production of audiovisual and cinematographic works in French Polynesia and on the other hand, the creation ofa specific grant allocated on justification of the expenditure incurred in this respect”. The benefit of these advantages would be “subject to prior obtaining of approval from the government”, specifies the report of the council of ministers this Wednesday.

The Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (Cesec) was seized of this draft law of the Country and issued a favorable opinion on November 27.

By adopting these measures, French Polynesia intends to position itself as a “leading filming destination, thus contributing to the diversification of its economy and the promotion of its landscapes and culture on an international scale”.

Because audiovisual is a sector of economic activity “in constant expansion, in perpetual search of new settings. The productions produced can also have a large international audience. They generate significant economic benefits in terms of employment, purchases of goods, rentals, accommodation, and provision of services.”

The aid should make it possible to encourage production companies to come to fenua. Because the budget for a shoot here can be colossal and often dissuasive.
