Ex-referee has a very clear opinion about questionable phases during Club Brugge-KRC Genk – news

KRC Genk lost 2-1 to Club Brugge on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the semi-final of the Croky Cup. There was room for discussion about both goals scored by the home team.

KRC Genk started well with Jan Breydel and took the lead after a goal by Tolu Arokodare. Joel Ordonez’s equalizer followed a corner kick in the first half. There was some protest at Genk, especially from goalkeeper Mike Penders.

He was slightly hindered by Maxim De Cuyper, which meant he could no longer reach the ball. Ex-referee Tim Pots thought it was the right decision.

“De Cuyper takes a step inside and Penders takes a step forward towards De Cuyper, causing contact. De Cuyper continued to look at the ball. This makes it difficult to block speak. I see too few reasons to disapprove the goal,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 2-1, which later turned out to be the winning goal, came after a penalty kick. There is also discussion about this. Mujaid Sadick tapped Jutgla very lightly in the penalty area. At Genk everyone thought it was an exaggerated decision, but Pots believes that the referees again did their job well.

“Sadick hits Jutglà’s heel, has no ball and the mistake happens before the ball has crossed the back line. The fact that Jutglà’s chance has actually already passed does not matter. It just makes Sadick’s mistake all the more unnecessary. This is a justified intervention by the VAR,” he concludes.
