Don't put away your down jacket and your scarf, you'll still need them for some time. While in recent days, temperatures have been negative over a large part of France, the weather forecasts available for Wednesday January 15, 2025 indicate that the trend should continue until the end of the week.
It's very simple: “Tuesday was the coldest day observed since the start of this winter”noted Météo-France. The culprit is high pressure Beate, which “maintains calm and cold weather” on the country.
However, the coolness observed at the start of the week is not exceptional: similar temperatures have been recorded in recent years. These cold episodes were also much more frequent during the 20e century, notes the meteorological organization.
Respite Thursday
Thursday should offer a slight respite. Météo-France predicts that the frosts will be less severe, “mainly due to denser cloud cover. » However, they will remain notable “in the north of Occitanie and part of Limousin”.
Temperatures should therefore be around 5°C in the north and center of France. They will be slightly higher further south.
It is from Friday that cooler weather should make its comeback. “Frosts will be a little more widespread from Friday and temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, without excess,” judge Météo-France.
Warmer next week
In detail, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Météo-France expects temperatures generally between -2°C and 2°C for the north and center of France. Further south, however, the thermometer could rise a little more, to 5°C or even beyond 10°C on the Mediterranean coast and on the Spanish border.
The forecasts for next week, which are still unreliable, expect a clear rise in temperatures. However, these would remain around seasonal norms for the winter.
