On Sunday January 12, at Café Théodore, in Trédrez-Locquémeau, the France Palestine Solidarity Trégor Association (AFPS) launched the tenth edition of the Fortnight of Palestine in Trégor. As in previous editions, film screenings, conferences, an exhibition, stories and a concert are offered to inform and raise awareness of the situation of Palestinians, whether in exile, in the Gaza Strip or in the West Bank.
Documentaries in the spotlight
“This year, the five film screenings highlight documentaries,” explain Claire Théret and Claude Lintanf, respectively president and vice-president of the AFPS. This Thursday, January 16 and 30, at the Les Baladins cinema, in Lannion, “Journey to Gaza” will be screened, about life in the Palestinian territory just before the Hamas attacks against Israeli civilians, on October 7, 2023. January 30 , “No Other Land”, directed by two Palestinians and two Israelis, recounts the expulsions of Palestinian families. It was awarded at the Berlinale festival in 2024.
On Sunday February 2, at the Le Douron cinema, in Plestin-les-Grèves, two screenings will allow, on the one hand, to discover the life of Leïla Shahid, a voice of the Palestinian people, and on the other hand to see a film on the he exile of a family driven from Palestine, first to Egypt, then to France.
An exhibition and conferences
The Espace Sainte-Anne, in Lannion, is also hosting an exhibition on the art of embroidery in Palestine from this Thursday. It highlights astonishing similarities between Palestinian and Breton creations. To highlight these links, Jean-Pierre Gonidec, author of the book “Embroiderers of hope, Brittany and Palestine, land of embroidery”, will give a conference on Saturday January 18 in the conference room of the cultural space.
In another conference, on Wednesday January 22, Agnès Levallois, author of the “Black Book of Gaza” and lecturer at Science-Po, will return to the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
-Still in Sainte-Anne, in the media library, Les Diseurs de contes will offer, in the children's area, Palestinian stories intended for young audiences aged 7 and over, on Saturday February 1st.
A festive moment at Valseuses
On Sunday January 26, at Valseuses, a concert café in the Brélévenez district of Lannion, a musical afternoon marks the light time of this fortnight. In the first part, flautists Jean-Michel Veillon and Jean-Mathias Pétri will present their repertoire as a duo. In the second part, after the pancakes, the group Mémoires rebels will pay homage to the repertoire of American protest songs from the 1960s and 1970s, with funk, rhythm'n'blues and soul rhythms.
