Five halls in three countries: These are the World Cup venues

The Handball World Championship will take place in Croatia, Norway and Denmark from January 14th to February 2nd. There are 108 games for the 32 participating teams until the title. A look at the five arenas taking place:

Jyske Bank Boxen, Herning (Denmark): Major handball events have often been held in Herning, Denmark. For example, the Jyske Bank Boxen was the venue for the 2014 European Championships and the 2019 World Cup. At this year’s tournament, two preliminary rounds and a main round will take place in the arena, which has a capacity of 15,000 spectators. The DHB team is also a guest in the small Danish town.

Unity Arena, Oslo (Norway): Handball fans really get their money’s worth in the Norwegian capital. 26 of the 108 games will take place in the Unity Arena, which can accommodate 13,950 spectators. In addition to two preliminary rounds and a main round, two quarter-finals, a semi-final as well as the game for third place and the final will also take place in Oslo.

Arena Zagreb, Zagreb (Croatia): With a capacity of 15,200 spectators, the multifunctional hall offers the most space in the Croatian capital. In the Arena Zagreb, which was built on the occasion of the 2009 Handball World Cup, two preliminary rounds, a main round, two quarter-finals and a semi-final will take place.

Sports hall Žatika, Porec (Croatia): The multi-purpose hall in the Croatian coastal town is the smallest venue for the World Cup. 3,500 spectators fit into the Športska dvorana Žatika, which was also built for the 2009 World Cup. In addition to a preliminary round, the President’s Cup also takes place in Porec, in which the bottom of the group play for places 25 to 32.

Varaždin Arena, Varaždin (Croatia): The small town in northern Croatia has already served as the location for the 2009 World Cup and the 2018 European Championship. A preliminary round and a main round take place in the Varaždin Arena, built in 2008.
