Former Brazilian tennis player Fernando Meligeni took to social media to celebrate the João Fonseca’s victory over Andrey Rublevthis Tuesday (14), in the first round of the Australian Open.
In his Grand Slam debut, Fonseca beat the Russian by 3 sets to 0 (7/6 (1), 6/3 and 7/6 (5)), at the Margaret Court Arena, in 2h23 of the match.

Gold medalist at the 2003 Pan American Games and semifinalist at the 1996 Olympics, Fernando Meligeni had a Roland Garros semifinal as his best result in Grand Slam tournaments.

The victory over Rublev represents the Brazilian’s 14th consecutive triumph. The carioca comes from winning the title at the Next Gen Finals, at the end of December, and at the Challenger 125 in Canberra, at the beginning of January, in addition to having qualified in the Australian Open against the Argentines Thiago Agustin Tirante and Federico Agustin Gomez and the Hong Kong Coleman Wong.
