During the debates in the Assembly on the bill to rebuild Mayotte, MP Liot described as “obscenity” the desire of rebellious France to once again call on the Mahorais, affected by the passage of Cyclone Chido, to show solidarity towards the Comorians.
“Of an obscenity that goes beyond the limits”. Mayotte MP Estelle Youssouffa (Liot) was visibly exasperated, this Monday in the Assembly, by the remarks of La France insoumise on the emergency bill for her department. Since the passage of Cyclone Chido which devastated the island on December 14, electricity has struggled to be restored, and many residents, particularly in informal settlements, are still homeless. But in the Economic Affairs Committee this Monday, during a hearing with Overseas Minister Manuel Valls as part of the examination of the bill, LFI deputy Aurélien Taché pointed out the “double standard policy” on the part of the government, wishing “the end of land rights for Mayotte”overwhelmed by Comorian immigration. A position “against the great principles of our Republic”scolded the rebellious elected official.
-“You thus accept that children do not have the same rights depending on where they are born in the French Republic”performed Aurélien Taché. He believes that it is “by establishing legal migration routes to the metropolis we can resolve the migration issue”. “For pity’s sake, further urged the member for Val-d'Oise, tell us how you plan to apply our motto liberty, equality, fraternity in our French Republic”.
“Obscenity without a name”
This outing, which was aimed at Manuel Valls, caused Estelle Youssouffa to react strongly. At the end of the session, the Mahoraise, rapporteur of the reconstruction bill, wanted to return to the words of the rebellious elected official. “I would like to understand what your wealth criteria are”she told him, recalling that Cyclone Chido “ravaged” Mayotte and “spared” the Comoros. “I find it hard to hear that Mayotte is richer”she continued. “We have no water, no electricity, nothing to eat, and you find a way to justify illegal immigration which continues today”.
Visibly exhausted, the elected official denounced “pretentiousness” of Aurélien Taché and his LFI colleagues who wish, she says, “include the Comoros, the country that claims us and instrumentalizes its population”in the “skinny” reconstruction program. “Magic! Words fail me”she snapped, judging these analyzes “so above ground”. “Not only do you not come (to Mayotte, Editor’s note), but you also allow yourself to make speeches that fuel foreign interference on our soil!”. And to insist on the paradox of “tell people who no longer have a roof over their heads, “continue to welcome””. “I find it an obscenity that goes beyond the limits”she finished, affirming that this speech “already painful before” becomes “a dogmatism that surpasses understanding”.
