What time will Charlie Dalin cross the finish line? of the 2024 Vendée Globe? And will he be able to go up the channel in stride or will he have to wait a few hours before communing with the public?
Here are the two big questions to which it is still impossible to give clear answers while we are only a few hours away from the outcome of this 10e edition of the Everest of the Seas.
Channel or no channel in the early morning?
During a press conference held this Monday at 5 p.m., the president of Sem Vendée, Alain Leboeuf, gave the latest ETA (Estimated time of arrival) concerning the leader Charlie Dalin but also his pursuer Yoann Richomme.
The skipper of Macif could cross the finish line as winner between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday January 14, 2025.
If he arrives before 6:15 a.m., we will be lucky to see him go up the channel before daybreak. Otherwise we will have to wait 2 p.m.
A slow arrival
Indeed, Charlie Dalin is currently sailing off the coast of Brittany and must face fairly soft conditions, in a weak east wind. Its descent towards Les Sables-d'Olonne is slowed down.
He must also find a compromise between wind research and safety. Indeed, in this area, traffic is relatively heavy. It should not collide with a fishing boat or get caught in nets…
And Yoann Richomme?
Regarding the second, Yoann Richomme, crossing the line is hoped for on Tuesday evening. He will have to cross it before 6:10 p.m. to be able to go up the channel straight away. Otherwise, this ascent will be done in the middle of the night.
In any case, the record held by Armel Le Cléac'h (74 days and 3 hours) will be shattered by around nine days.
Everyone at the edge of the channel!
We have to go and welcome our great champions! There must be a lot of us in the channel, the crowd must be there to give them a little energy to get to the pontoon.
What is certain is that the teams and supporters of the two skippers will be numerous.
“All Mer Concept employees (around fifty people) will be present and all Macif employees have been invited, which represents 11,000 people. Everyone is here to party Charlie», indicated Jean-Luc Nelias, team manager of Imoca Macif. Drones, hearts, giants and other saxophones will be out…
As for Paprec and Arkéa too, we are in the starting blocks to welcome Yoann Richomme. “Everyone mobilized. They are all arriving this evening,” confided Romain Ménard, team manager of Imoca Paprec Arkéa.
