A trailer for the film Armorin which we hear the voice of voice actor Alain Dorval recreated by AI, is the subject of debate. Her daughter, the Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, distances herself.

Is Artificial Intelligence seeking to defy death? A VF trailer forArmorSylvester Stallone's next film, is circulating on the web and causing controversy: the voice of his historic voice actor Alain Dorval, who died in February 2024, is recreated there thanks to an AI. Aurore Bergé, Minister Delegate for Gender Equality and daughter of the missing voice actor, denies having given her agreement.

Friday January 10, Variety announced that the voice of Alain Dorval, who dubbed Sylvester Stallone for nearly 50 years (notably in Rocky et Rambo), would be recreated for the film as part of a partnership between two companies, Lumiere Ventures and Eleven Labs. The American media adds that the feature film, released in theaters in November in the United States, would be available in March on Prime Video in (under the title Armoredaccording to the platform’s website).

Trailer criticized

Still according to Variety, the two companies claim to have received the agreement of the voice actor's family. The media relays a press release from Aurore Bergé in which she declares that she wanted to “do something that would honor the art and legacy of (her) father”:

“There is a fundamental difference between artificially creating a new voice – something my father was categorically opposed to – and bringing back to life an actor whose voice is deeply anchored in our collective imagination.”

A trailer in VF began circulating on social networks… and the result attracted a lot of criticism. On the quality of the rendering, but also on the ethical questions raised by such a practice. Last May, many French voice actors came together in a collective to warn of the dangers that AI poses to their profession.

Images disavowed by Aurore Bergé

The Minister Delegate for Equality between Women and Men herself reacted on the social network X to defend herself from having accepted the exploitation of her father's voice:

“I agreed to a trial. Only a trial,” she corrected.

“An agreement strictly guaranteeing me that my mother and I would be in final validation before any use/publication. And that nothing could be done without our agreement. I discover… on X that this commitment is not respected. I never validated such a broadcast and my father would never have validated it as it stands.”
