The mildness of the start of the year quickly gave way to freshness throughout France. This Monday, Météo-France placed 34 departments on extreme cold yellow alert until tomorrow evening, midnight. Temperatures ranging from -5 in Vichy to -3 in Alençon, Tours and Aurillac are expected Tuesday morning. If we are far from the thresholds which define a “cold wave”, according to La Chaîne Météo, we are still experiencing a good cold snap which is forcing many prefectures to trigger the “severe cold plan”. And this will last with temperatures feeling up to -10 degrees in Saône-et-Loire, for example.
Tuesday, after the marked frosts in the morning, the maximums remain wintry, from 1 to 10°C with a cold peak but the weather will remain calm and sunny over most of the country.
A freezing week
From Wednesday to Friday, the coldest will have passed but temperatures will rise slightly. -4 in Aurillac and Belfort, -3 in Toulouse in the morning and an average of 5 degrees in the afternoon in France.
Thursday and Friday, after very cold nights, the temperatures will get closer to positive but you will have to be a little patient to regain some mildness. According to forecasts, this peak of extreme cold will come to an end between Saturday and Sunday and the outdoors will be more livable from next Monday with positive temperatures from the morning.
