Under fire from criticism since her election, Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, is facing intense controversy. A worrying situation which pushes Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France company, to express his fears for his safety.
The election of Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, continues to generate a lot of ink. Since her coronation on December 14, the 34-year-old from Martinique has been the target of numerous attacks, particularly on social networks. Latest controversy: her silence during an interview with Sud Radio, where she refused to answer a question about her support for the slogan “I am Charlie.”
Questioned on January 8, the day after the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the attack against Charlie Hebdo, Angélique Angarni-Filopon seemed to hesitate before declaring that she did not wish to comment. A response which immediately sparked virulent reactions, amplified by a Charlie Hebdo cartoon published shortly after. The illustration showed three Islamists holding a sign “I am Miss France”, accompanied by the title “Miss France is not Charlie!”

A wave of repeated attacks since the election of Miss France 2025
Faced with this situation, Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France company, spoke this Sunday to defend the young woman. “This controversy is incredibly violent. It goes a little far,” he declared to Parisian. “There are people who can come across this drawing and not all of them have a sense of humor. I am worried for the safety of Miss France. It’s a real question I’m asking myself today.”

This new controversy adds to other criticisms of which Angélique Angarni-Filopon has been the target since her election. His age, his short hair and his physique have already fueled debates on social networks. “It takes a lot, it takes a lot since December 14,” continued Frédéric Gilbert. “Hitting hurts so much.” Miss France herself tried to ease tensions by publishing a message on Instagram, in which she recognized an awkwardness in form. “Of course, freedom of expression is essential in France,” she wrote, while emphasizing that her role requires neutrality on certain subjects.

Delicate management of public image
For Frédéric Gilbert, the media context partly explains this situation. “She was still in a post-reign media week, still a little in the euphoria of her election. “She was completely caught off guard by this question.” he explained. According to him, Angélique followed the usual instructions which ask Miss France not to express themselves on political or religious subjects.
“Certainly, the competition has evolved, but we forget that Miss France is still glamorous, a dream,” he added. He also recalled that other Misses had already been faced with similar controversies, such as Diane Leyre (Miss France 2022), attacked for her positions on vaccines. Despite the controversy, Angélique Angarni-Filopon was able to count on signs of support. During a signing session in Alsace this weekend, many admirers sent him words of encouragement. “It cheered him up,” said Frédéric Gilbert.
