LIVE: Cercle wants three other names in the base over STVV and Westerlo, KVM is immediately counting on newcomers

Immediately after the short winter break, an important match is scheduled for both Cercle Brugge and KV Mechelen. The home team wants to get away from the back, the visitors want to maintain contact with the sub-top.

While previous coach Miron Muslic has found a new team with Plymouth, Ferdinand Feldhofer is trying to leave his mark on Cercle Brugge even more. It doesn’t really matter to him which system it is, but he also insists on good pressing at a high intensity. That must be the recipe to keep Cercle in the JPL.

Cercle Brugge is now unbeaten in four matches. The change may therefore have begun. Although that is a premature conclusion, because the statistics in those matches say it all. Few goals were conceded, but few were scored either. Cercle has the chance to jump over STVV and Westerlo. Then it would be nice if the ball hit the net more often.

KV Mechelen with fresh blood in the defensive compartment

KV Mechelen has also had to deal with that problem lately, even though they scored so easily at the start of the season. So things can change. Besnik Hasi also wants more choice defensively and that is why he wanted a new defensive midfielder and a central defender. Tim Matthys has already delivered in that area.

Hasi hoped that the newcomers would arrive by early January. And voila: Fredrik Hammar and Stephen Welsh are already eligible to play this weekend. The arrival of Welsh in particular is not an unnecessary luxury because Van den Eynden is out for four months. The question remains whether there is still enough offensive momentum in the team. Thanks to the victories of Union and Standard, it will also be ‘bingo’ for KVM in 2025.

No Bill Antonio at KVM yet

Cercle Brugge has also signed a newcomer, but striker Steve Ngoura is currently still injured. Van den Eynden thus joins the Mechelen injury list, with Storm, Foulon, Konaté, Vanheusden and Thoelen who are also out of action. This match comes too early for Antonio.
