Lauren Macuga provides the next surprise in St. Anton. The 22-year-old American clearly wins the super-G ahead of Austria’s Stehpanie Venier and Italy’s Federica Brignone.

Macuga took advantage of the slightly better conditions and showed a consistently strong run. Venier was already 68 hundredths behind in second place, with third-placed Brignone almost a second behind. Macuga, who was completely surprised at the finish, thus celebrated a victory and podium premiere in the World Cup in St. Anton. Her previous best result was a 4th place in the downhill in Beaver Creek last month.

Although the Swiss women missed out on the podium, three of them finished in the top 10, with Lara Gut-Behrami once again the best member of the Swiss-Ski team in fifth place. The skier from Ticino, who had finished second in the two previous super-G races, finished directly behind Lindsey Vonn. The 40-year-old American continues to impress in her comeback season and narrowly missed the podium in her 100th career super-G.

Malorie Blanc, the sensational downhill runner-up on Saturday, was also able to celebrate again. Even with a performance that was not flawless, the 21-year-old from Valais skied fast and finished ninth in her third World Cup race. Blanc finished four hundredths behind Corinne Suter, who achieved her best result of the season in St. Anton in eighth place. Jasmina Suter (19th), Joana Hählen (20th), Priska Ming-Nufer (25th) and Michelle Gisin (27th) also finished in the points.

Behind Macuga, Venier brought joy to the home crowd after the strong Austria team was denied a podium finish on Saturday. It was Venier’s first podium finish since her victory a year ago in Crans-Montana. Downhill winner Federica Brignone was doomed by a mistake in the third sector. Nevertheless, it was enough for third place, with which the 34-year-old Italian took the lead in the overall World Cup.
