Swiss skier Loic Meillard dominated the first run of the giant slalom in Adelboden in front of his home crowd on Sunday, edging ahead of both Henrik Kristoffersen and Marco Odermatt.

Taking advantage of an immaculate piste with his number 1 bib, Meillard completed the Chuenisbargli in 1 minute 15.15 seconds, 0.27sec ahead of Norway’s Kristoffersen and 0.34sec ahead of fellow Swiss Odermatt.

Meillard, 28, has had four podiums already this season but has yet to find the victory to add to his four previous World Cup wins.

Odermatt, in search of a fourth consecutive victory on this legendary slope that would consolidate his lead in both the overall and giant classifications, paid for an overcautious start before making up some time on the final section.

The second run will take place at 1230 GMT.
