Here’s a rough idea for how things will progress over the weekend.
ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta and the city center itself saw a rare blanketing of snow and ice Friday morning, sending ATL-iens out into the streets to make snow angels, build snowmen and even ski and snowboard down city streets.
But how long is all this fun going to last?

This isn’t meant to be exact, but will give you a rough idea of what to expect as the weekend progresses.
When is the snow going to melt in Atlanta?
Here’s a general breakdown:
-- Freezing tonight: We’ve seen a little melting this afternoon as temperatures have hovered just above freezing this afternoon. But tonight, temperatures drop back below freezing. Anything that melts today will refreeze tonight as the sun goes down. And with more freezing rain expected this evening in northeast Georgia, this will create especially slick and icy travel conditions.
- Tomorrow & tomorrow night: The temperatures will rise a bit above freezing Saturday afternoon, a little melting will occur. Then the sun goes down and everything re-freezes by Sunday morning.
- Sunday: Here’s when we’ll see more significant melting. More sun out, slightly higher highs, and slightly higher lows when the sun goes back down. Monday, with highs in the mid-40s, will sadly probably melt down any lingering Frosty the Snowmen out there.
