Duets with Santa
To begin, each of the candidates shared a duet with Santa, the singer who lent her song “Recommence moi” as the anthem of the season. If both performances were successful, the advantage of this first test seemed to lean in favor of the young candidate from Lille, who also had the difficulty of being on the piano.
The grand solos
Between “My Heart Will Go On” by Céline Dion and “SOS d’un terrestrial en distress” by Daniel Balavoine, the level of the great solo was particularly high. Marine opened the ball with a great performance, although her voice sometimes seemed a little limited, even tired. As for Charles, he had the difficult task of making us forget the legendary interpretation of Grégory Lemarchal, who, too, had sublimated this emblematic Starmania title on this same set, during his season.

The vocal duel
Still neck and neck, the two candidates faced off in a new vocal duel on “Living for the Best” by Johnny Hallyday. On paper, this title seemed to advantage Charles, who has a good command of Johnny’s repertoire and shares with his father, also an amateur singer of “Taulier” songs, a passion for this legend. An advantage confirmed after the performance, a point for Charles.
The a cappella duels
“The challenge of this song, in a cappella, is to give each word, but also each silence, the same importance. In a cappella, we are naked”explained Lucie, the coach, when announcing the theme. Each placed on a podium, it was Charles who launched first with the song “Casser la voix” by Patrick Bruel.
If the candidate once again succeeded in his performance, his emotional interpretation appeared slightly below that of Marine, who, for her part, delivered a truly flawless performance. For Hugues Hamelynck, theater teacher, the point goes to the young candidate: “You have to sing this song as if it were a question of life or death. And the one who sang with this dramatic intention was Marine.”

After an evening full of guests, in addition to the two international stars – the duets of Charles with Charlie Winston, of Marine with Charlotte Cardin, or the performance of Ebony and Charles alongside Camélia Jordana – the time had finally come to discover the name of the first finalist of this twelfth season.
The votes, as Nikos made clear several times, were extremely close. But after duels and performances of rare intensity, it’s Marine who gets his place in the final!
Next Saturday, it will be the turn of Franck and Ebony to decide in the second semi-final.
