Prime Minister François Bayrou praised the “courage” of Anne-Marie Comparini on Saturday in Lyon during the funeral of the former president of the Rhône-Alpes region and her long-time ally, who died at the age of 77.
Leaving Saint-Jean Cathedral in Old Lyon, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the memory of a “tremendously courageous and tremendously generous” woman.
“That I find myself in this responsibility at the moment when she is making her last journey, (…) it makes sense” he added to the press after this ceremony during which he paid tribute to his faithful ally.
He did not want to answer any further questions.
The mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet as well as the minister responsible for relations with Parliament, Patrick Mignola were also present at the religious ceremony.
Born July 11, 1947 in Orange (Vaucluse), Anne-Marie Comparini was a member of the UDF (center-right) and had served as parliamentary assistant to former Prime Minister Raymond Barre, of whom she was also the Deputy for city policy at Lyon town hall.
In 1999, she became the first woman elected to the presidency of the Rhône-Alpes regional council, which she headed until 2004.
-Member of Parliament for Rhône since 2002, she ran for the 2007 legislative elections under the UDF and Modem union label, but was beaten in the first round.
She announced her withdrawal from politics shortly after the 2007 legislative elections, but nevertheless supported Emmanuel Macron, whose Lyon support committee she chaired in 2022.
