BYD is exhibiting on its stand at the Brussels show, the Atto 2, an electric SUV measuring 4.31 m long, expected here in the spring. If its origin is Chinese, its manufacturing will be European from the end of 2025. Indeed, the Atto 2 will be produced in Hungary, which should allow it to avoid import taxes and in theory, benefit from what remains of the ecological bonus in France.
The Atto 2 is in a way the SUV derivative of the compact Dolphin. The exterior style is inspired by several brands, Honda for the front, Smart for the floating roof and Mercedes for the rear lights. On board, we find a very classic but sober layout. The cockpit is made up of a large rotating central screen which requires everything to be tactile. The space in the rear seats is about average as for the trunk volume of 400 liters, it is placed in the high range of the market. One of the strong points of the Atto 2 is its heat pump system, supplied as standard.
Equipped with a 176 hp electric motor, placed on the front axle, the Chinese SUV will make do with a small battery of 42.4 kWh net capacity, promising a combined range of 312 km, less than its direct competitors like the Citroën ë-C3 (320 km) for example. What remains unknown is the price, which must be attractive to find your way among the many models on the market. Standard equipment and the structure of the range for France will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Caradisiac moment: innovation
The Atto 2 is Byd’s first compact model to use the “Cell-to-Body (CTB)” process which completely integrates the battery into the vehicle chassis. The upper battery cover acts as a floor for the passenger compartment and helps achieve greater rigidity.
