When will the Supercopa de España final take place: Barcelona – Real Madrid or Mallorca?

The first title of the year will be awarded in the coming days as Barcelona look to make amends after their heavy defeat in last year’s final.

In just a few days the name of the champion of the first title of 2025 in Spanish football will be announced, which, as has become customary in recent years, is the Supercopa de España. Since the format change in 2020, when the tournament was played in Final Four mode, this tournament has become the start of the football year in our country, and Barcelona will be in the final for the third time in a row.

Until the 1980s and until 2017, this tournament was played in August, at the start of the season, between the reigning La Liga and Copa del Rey champions in a return match. It took place for the first time as a single game outside Spain in 2018, where Barcelona triumphed against Sevilla in Morocco.

Real Madrid will face Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final

There was no Supercopa in the summer of 2019 due to the introduction of the new format, which was played in Saudi Arabia in January 2020 and included league and cup champions and runners-up. Since then, five editions have been played under this format, with Real Madrid emerging as champions in three of them, while Athletic and Barcelona each won the title once.

Hansi Flick’s side became the first to reach the final after beating Athletic Club, the reigning Copa del Rey champions, with a convincing 0-2 win in Wednesday’s semi-final, with goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal . The second finalist will be announced in a few minutes when the semi-final between Real Madrid and RCD Mallorca comes to an end.

The final of the Supercopa de España will take place on Sunday, January 12th at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where both semi-finals have already been played. Kick-off is at 8:00 p.m. Spanish time and the game can be followed on the Radioestadio of Onda Cero with Edu García and the entire sports team. It will also be broadcast live on Movistar Plus.
