Bitter cold today, FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY Friday for inland wintry mix

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We will see the coldest air so far throughout the day today. We have issued a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYY for the risk of wintry weather for the Pee Dee Friday Evening into Friday night.

TODAY

As you are waking up this morning you will want to bundle up, we are under a cold weather advisory that has been issued following the shot of arctic air that has arrived. Bitter cold temperatures and wind chills will be felt, temperatures will sit in the mid to low 20s this morning however we will factor wind chill back into the forecast, and wind chills this morning will sit in the mid to low teens.

Temperatures will climb to the upper 30s however with the wind chill we will feel like the low 30s through the afternoon.(wmbf)

Throughout the day temperatures will only climb to the upper 30s, and the breeze will stick around through the afternoon making wind chills remain feeling only like the the low 30s through the afternoon.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY

We have issued a First Alert Weather Day for Dillon, Darlington, Florence, Marion, Marlboro, Scotland, and Robeson Counties as the risk for a wintry mix will develop and move through tomorrow afternoon through the night.

Friday afternoon through Friday night is FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY across the Pee Dee.(WMBF)

The low-pressure system that we have been giving you the First Alert to will bring a surge of moisture that will start to move into the region.

A winter storm watch has been issued for Scotland County starting tomorrow afternoon through Saturday morning ahead of the wintry mix that will move through.

Clouds will increase through the morning, and precipitation will start through the afternoon. The precipitation is expected to start as a mix of sleet and freezing rain, and we can’t rule out a few snow flurries for inland areas. The sleet will transition to sleet and freezing rain during the evening hours.

Temperatures after midnight will climb just above freezing, resulting in plain cold rain throughout the overnight before this system moves out.

While no significant accumulations of sleet or snow are expected we can expect a glaze of ice that may develop on elevated surfaces Friday evening.

The ground and road temperatures have been very cold, icy patches may develop especially on bridges and overpasses.

Across the Grand Strand and Horry County, a bride period of light sleet is possible through the early evening, no travel issues are expected. We will see enough warm air move in just in time to prevent these issues and bring just a cold rain Friday night.

You can expect this system to move in through Friday night and be out through Saturday afternoon. Saturday morning as you are waking up you can expect some lingering rain however through Saturday Afternoon we will see this system move out and have plenty of dry time throughout the afternoon and into the evening. sunshine will return with cold temperatures for Sunday.
