Emmanuel Macron's wrath is definitely having a hard time getting across to his African interlocutors. The latter, led by Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, responded on Tuesday January 7 to comments made the day before by the Head of State, in a speech before the French ambassadors gathered in Paris. For the tenant of the Elysée, African leaders have “forgot to say thank you” when intervened militarily, with « raison »in the Sahel, in 2013, at the initial request of Mali, against jihadist fighters. “It doesn’t matter, it will come with time”annoyed the French head of state, falsely ironic. Without these anti-terrorist operations, “none of them” would not manage a sovereign country, he judged, before talking about« ingratitude » from his counterparts in the Sahel.

The reaction was quick. In Chad, Mr. Déby Itno, said his « indignation » with regard to statements which, according to him, “borders on contempt for Africa and Africans”. “I think he’s got the wrong era”, he said about the French President of the Republic, during a greeting ceremony on Tuesday morning.
