Interviewed this morning on Inter, Iranian Human Rights activist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, for the first time, gave news of Cécile Kohler via co-detainees of the teacher originally from Soultz.

“Terrible conditions”

And the vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, led by another Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Shirin Ebadi, is very worried. “I asked for news of Cécile from prisoners who spent a few days in cell with her. They say that physically she is very weakened, and I am very worried about her. Because I was in isolation too, you know. And these are terrible conditions, real torture,” Narges Mohammadi said.

“Something inconceivable”

“When I was there, we only had three outings in the yard, of only 20 minutes per week. […] So being there for a very long time, three years, like her […] could really be fatal. Being isolated for such a long time, putting her in a terrible psychological situation, can put her in great danger. […] Finding yourself in isolation for so long is something inconceivable and unbearable,” concluded Narges Mohammadi at the microphone of Sonia Devillers this Wednesday morning.

An “immediate transfer” request

Cécile Kohler and her companion Jacques have been detained in Iran since May 7, 2022, or 32 months. Last November, the A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary had assured, according to AFP, that they were “in good health” and detained in “good conditions”. Information immediately denied by the family and the support committee, who reiterated their request for “immediate transfer” of the two hostages to the political prisoners’ quarter, “under less inhumane conditions”
