Olympique de officially announced the arrival of Luiz Felipe, 27-year-old Italian-Brazilian central defender, as the first recruit on the winter transfer market.

Free from any contract after a mixed adventure at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, the former player of Lazio Rome and Betis Sevilla has signed a commitment until June 2026 with the Marseille club. This recruitment responds to a glaring necessity for OM, faced with uncertainties in its defensive sector. Luiz Felipe seems to perfectly match the profile sought by the technical staff and management. Versatile, he can play in central defense, on the left or on the right. With his imposing physique, his ability to restart and his tactical adaptability, he embodies the modern defender capable of stabilizing the Olympian rearguard.

Luiz Felipe, one more solution for De Zerbi

Luiz Felipe distinguished himself during his five seasons at Lazio Rome, notably winning the Coppa Italia in 2019 and two Italian Super Cups (2017, 2019). After a stint in La Liga with Betis Sevilla, he also gained experience on the international scene with the Italian team. However, his recent career has been marred by several injuries during his time at Al-Ittihad, slowing down his progress. Despite this, he remains a reliable player.

Seduced by the Marseille project and the intensity of Ligue 1, Luiz Felipe favored OM despite offers from prestigious clubs like Juventus, Napoli or Inter Milan. Wearing number 4, he should quickly integrate and become a pillar of the locker room thanks to his determination and competitive spirit. Operational from the end of January, it arrives at the key moment when Marseille begins the second part of the season. With this recruitment, the club hopes not only to strengthen its defense, but also to provide a touch of leadership essential to achieve its objectives.
