Several departments in the north-east of France are on orange snow and ice alert this Saturday, January 4. Snowfall and freezing rain are forecast.
The drop in temperatures is accompanied by a risk of snow and ice. This Saturday, January 4, 16 departments are placed on orange snow and ice alert by Météo-France, the first from 8 p.m.
The departments concerned are: Seine-Maritime, Somme, Pas-de-Calais, Nord, Oise, Aisne, Marne, Ardennes, Meuse, Haute-Marne, Vosges, Haut -Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Territoire de Belfort, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle.
“A disturbance associated with a lot of mild air will sweep across the entire country in a southwest and northeast direction” this Saturday, January 4 and during the night from Saturday to Sunday, indicated Météo-France. This disturbance will “encounter a mass of cold air” thus causing snowfall “and especially freezing rain” for “a few hours”, warns the site.
Up to 5 centimeters of snow on the ground
The snowfall will be “fairly brief”, Météo-France. They may, however, be “more persistent in the border departments of the Grand-Est, being able to reach up to 5 centimeters on the ground”. Météo-France does not envisage a worsening of vigilance for the time being. It runs until Sunday January 5.
On the road, the return of cold weather worries motorists in these departments. “I'm very afraid of the snow, the ice, the ravines. There, I don't know how we're going to get back down by car, I want to go back down on foot to the bottom”, explains a motorist from Kintzheim (Bas -Rhine) to BFMTV.
