Ferdi Tayfur, one of the popular voices of Turkish music, died at the age of 79 in the hospital where he was treated in Antalya.
A ceremony will be held for the artist, who lost his life due to liver and kidney failure, at Atatürk Cultural Center tomorrow at 12:00 Türkiye time. Tayfur will be buried in the family cemetery in Yeniköy after the funeral prayer at Emirgan Çınaraltı Mosque.
The artist fell ill at his home in Marmaris on December 15, was treated first in Muğla, and then was sent to Antalya. Tayfur, who had sinus surgery at Medical Park Antalya Hospital, previously had a stent placed in his brain vessel, and had a kidney transplant from his son in 2020.
“We are deeply saddened to inform his fans that the much-loved artist of Turkish music, Mr. Ferdi Tayfur, has passed away due to liver and kidney failure,” said hospital officials, emphasizing that Tayfur will be remembered not only for his voice, but also for the innovations and sincerity he brought to music.
Tayfur's body was sent to Antalya Airport after the ceremony held in front of the hospital. As soon as the artist's fans heard the sad news, they gathered in front of the hospital, shed tears and prayed. Murat Aygın, one of his loved ones, said, “Ferdi Baba was one of the family, he was the father of the poor,” and added that he grew up in the same neighborhood with him and was raised with his songs and movies.
