– To benefit from this 14% reduction, you must subscribe to the regulated rate.

Good news for millions of French people. Despite inflation still present for several months, from February 1, the regulated rate for individuals will experience a drop of 14%. A decree published on December 28 made the information official. According to the text, the tax will mechanically rise on February 1 to its pre-crisis levelor 33.70 euros per megawatt hour for individuals compared to 22 currently, but without any additional increase, reports moneyvox.

To benefit from this reduction, you must subscribe to the regulated rate. If you have opted for a market offer that is indexed there, then you automatically benefit from the 14% reduction. You can change your electricity contract at any time and free of charge. Even if you have left the device, it is possible to return to it. To do this, you can contact EDF customer service. The TRV (regulated electricity sales tariff) protects the 20 million subscribing households (59% of consumers) from the ups and downs of the electricity market.

Towards a disappearance of TRVs?

In addition to consumer protection, TRVs play a shock absorber role for the French electricity system. EDF's blue tariffs are in fact marketed according to three options: off-peak hours, the “Tempo” offer and the base. The first two are offers which encourage the consumer to shift their use to times when electricity demand is lower. Enough to smooth out consumption peaks during peak hours but also prevent electricity prices from soaring during peak hours.

Except that TRVs are not unanimous. The Competition Authority, in a report published on November 19, “recommended” on the contrary to the government of “prepare in a concrete manner for their disappearance”. They constitute an obstacle to European law, according to her.
