Panama This Thursday, it formalized its incorporation into the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for the period 2025-2026. During the flag installation ceremony at the UN headquarters, the commitment of the new members to promoting global peace and security was highlighted.

Panama’s ambassador to the United Nations, Eloy Alfaro de Alba, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and the defense of multilateralism. During his speech, he highlighted Panama’s historic fight for its sovereignty and the symbolism of the national flag flying over the Panama Canal.

“The world can count on Panama as a constructive partner that builds bridges for the work that awaits us in the Security Council in the next two years. With this objective, we propose to enhance the traditional role of our country, as a promoter of dialogue, mediation and conciliation in international affairs,” declared Alfaro. He also stressed that Panama will be evaluated for its commitment to defending the fundamental principles of the UN.

At the ceremony, other non-permanent member countries joined the Security Council: Denmark, Greece, Pakistan and Somalia, who, together with Panama, will play a key role in the organization’s global decisions.
