The Glasgow rivals go head-to-head in Scottish Premiership action this afternoon.

The league contest will be played at Ibrox Stadium with a weather warning issued ahead of the match.

A Met Office yellow warning for ice has been released with large areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland impacted.

It urges caution over icy surfaces in impacted areas with the possibility of difficult travel conditions.

On what could be expected as a result of the adverse weather, a Met Office explanation reads: “Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

“Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”

Further details add: “Scattered wintry showers will be replaced by a longer spell of rain and sleet for a time on Thursday night, particularly across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“As temperatures dip below freezing, this will lead to a risk of ice formation on untreated surfaces, especially inland.”

Fortunately, there should be little impact of the weather ahead of the match with it coming into effect at 5pm on Thursday.

However, that could mean some difficulty for supporters leaving the stadium and travelling from there as wintry showers begin.

The yellow weather warning will remain overnight until around 10am on Friday morning.

The Met Office advises: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.

“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

“Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
