This is the juicy anecdote of the Gazzetta dello Sport a few hours before the semi-final of the Italian Super Cup : “It all started with a Vafancuolo from Lotito”
“Tomorrow, they will compete for a place in the Super Cup final. In the meantime, they challenge each other for the Scudetto. And they don't love each other because in the recent past, Simone Inzaghi gave authentic football lessons to Gasperini….. But what is the relationship between the two coaches involved in the Italian Super Cup on Arab soil? What is certain is that they do not love each other”
May 15, 2019, the triggering episode
The explosion between the two coaches dates back to May 15, 2019, the day of the Coppa Italia final between Lazio and Atalanta played at the Olimpico in Rome. Simone Inzaghi's Biancocelesti will win the cup thanks to goals from Milinkovic Savic and…Correa in the Final, but the Final will be remembered for two other feats of arms passed down to posterity
First of all, a hand fault by Bastos is not punishedensuite, for the consequences and controversy that followed : We are in the 25th minute of a heated and open final, and there is a free kick for Atalanta. Papu Gomez sends the ball towards the center of the Lazio area, Djimstiti heads a header for De Roon who shoots towards Strakosha's goal: Bastos's hand fault is blatant, she saves the goal and deflects the ball onto the post, a confused action follows, but there is no whistle from Banti and therefore no goal.
“This is a very serious and unacceptable error! We are always ready to accept a defeat on a sporting level, but it is an unacceptable fact of play. This is a fault for VAR. This is a shot that goes towards the goal and is stopped by the hand of a defender. This thing is heavy: It’s penalty and expulsion!” Gian Piero Gasperini is furious, Antonio Percassi… too.
For his part, Lazio celebrates the 7th Coppa Italia in its history, Atalanta grumbles for what could have become the first trophy of the Gasp era. And in the evening, the Biancocelesti parties begin, everyone gathers for dinner to celebrate the triumph. Lotito also arrives, he approaches Inzaghi sitting next to his partner Gaia Lucariello (who will film the scene with his cell phone and then delete an Instagram story that went viral in a few seconds) and whispers to his trainer:
“I said Fuck Gasperini…”
Simone's answer is ready:
“You did very well.”
Other less resounding feats of arms exist
The very first episode, before the 2019 Coppa Italia final, dates back to 2017: Lazio-Atalanta, Inzaghi won 2-1 but was sent off by referee Pairetto during the match. Shortly after, the same fate for a very angry Gasp: “I was expelled for convenience, just because he expelled Inzaghi before.”
And Simone answers: “We dominated the match…”
“I didn’t see Lazio dominating”and so on to the sound of exchanges and low blows
The last episode arrives during the sad season linked to Covid, that of 2020-21: Lazio wins in Bergamo 3-1, Inzaghihaving no more voice, gives the floor to his deputy Farris. But the provocation comes first from Gasp:
“It's true, we lost, but Lazio never really put us in difficulty. And usually, in the ranking, they end up behind us…”
Delightful response from our beloved Farris:
“Gasperini must be nervous because in Bergamo they always talk about the Coppa Italia. Perhaps they were marked by this defeat. However, I remind him that the Coppa is well displayed in our Showcase, in Formello”
But the worst is yet to come, because one way or another, the Tifosi of Lazio manage to find Gasperini's cell phone number and what follows is a bombardment of messages of insults, threats and of provocations.
“In recent seasons, the climate has taken a more serene turn” however confirms the Rosea…

You surprise me that the climate is more serene given the current series that he makes friends with Inzaghi the Nerazzurro!
