Increased proportion of mid- to low-priced gift sets in recession
The retail industry is quickly preparing for advance reservations during the Lunar New Year holiday, which came earlier than usual. In particular, this year, competition for cost-effectiveness is intensifying for holiday gift sets in the recession.
According to related industries on the 2nd, retailers have started pre-ordering gift sets ahead of the Lunar New Year on the 29th.
This year’s gift set keyword is cost-effectiveness. Consumers’ wallets are closed as consumer sentiment freezes due to the burden of prices.
As a result, it is gaining popularity mainly for products with large discount benefits or low gift sets. Last Chuseok, there was a clear preference for cost-effectiveness gift sets.
Lotte Mart will hold a pre-booking promotion of a total of 200 liquor gift sets by the 15th with bottle bunker, a liquor store. Compared to last year’s Lunar New Year, the number of items has been increased by about 30%, preparing gift sets with various prices ranging from substantial to premium.
The wine product group increased the volume of the cost-effective “two-bottle bundle” gift set by about 30% from the previous Lunar New Year. This is because the preference for cost-effective products is increasing.
This year’s gift sets include a set of substantial wines from Chile and Spain, which range from 20,000 won to 30,000 won, to a set of French Bordeaux wine bundles of 60,000 won to 70,000 won.
An official from Lotte Mart explained, “If you look at the sales of last Lunar New Year gift sets, the sales of wine-bundled gift sets increased by 20% year-on-year.”
Homeplus prepared by increasing the number of mid- and low-priced gift sets from 20,000 won to 60,000 won by about 10% year-on-year. Homeplus explained that in the case of gift sets, which are in high demand despite rising prices, the price was frozen to minimize the burden on consumers. If you pay with an event card by the 15th of next month, you can get up to a 50% discount.
E-Mart explained that it has started planning a gift set by focusing on “substantial” reflecting the continued high price trend. In the case of fruit sets, the price of major items was lowered from the previous year, expanding the options for purchasing less than 50,000 won.
In particular, the price of apple gift sets was set about 10% lower than the previous New Year’s. Compared to last year, the preparation volume could be increased by 15-20% due to the good crop conditions of middle and large fruit suitable for holidays.
Shine Muscat, which has increased production this year, is also about 30% cheaper than last New Year’s Day. Livestock and fisheries gift sets have also prepared gift sets priced at less than 100,000 won. The gift set for processed foods and daily products expanded the gift set in the range of 10,000 won to 20,000 won.
This is because retailers increase the proportion of pre-booking holiday gift sets, which is effective in improving profitability. It also helps reduce inventory costs by predicting sales volume in advance and adjusting production and inventory.
An E-Mart official said, “The number of pre-booking customers who can prepare holiday gifts at high prices is increasing every year.”
