The past few weeks have already been turbulent, and the weather in the north continues to be changeable. Now the first snow is coming.
Heavy squalls accompanied the turn of the year in many places in the north and New Year’s Day was also characterized by continuous rain and high wind speeds in Lower Saxony and Bremen. Now winter is apparently coming to both federal states – even if the last forecast from the German Weather Service (DWD) has to be put into perspective somewhat.
Accordingly, in large parts of the country, heavy showers are expected to come from the sky at temperatures between minus 1 and minus 4 degrees, which could lead to snow or sleet over the course of the night. Slippery roads are to be expected, according to the DWD. This picture will continue on Friday, with snow showers and also short sleet thunderstorms to be expected.
-The snow showers continue on Saturday night, the values drop to minus 1 degree, and it remains frost-free on the East Frisian Islands. The weekend, according to the forecast, will remain changeable. At temperatures of minus 1 to 4 degrees, snow showers are still possible, and the picture in the sky will continue on Sunday night.
The DWD expects severe frost, especially on Sunday night, which can reach temperatures of minus 6 degrees. Snow and sleet showers could also occur locally.
Drivers should be particularly careful on Sundays. According to meteorologists, another rain front is rolling in from the northwest, which is expected to bring sleet during the day. Slippery roads are to be expected in many places. Drivers should continue to exercise particular caution on Monday night.
