After a Cybertruck, which was not badly damaged, exploded outside a Donald Trump hotel, Elon Musk claimed that those responsible had chosen the wrong vehicle for their “terrorist attack.”
One dead and seven injured. This Wednesday, January 1, a Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Delivered since the end of 2023 in the United States, it is a pick-up designed by Tesla, Elon Musk's car manufacturer.
The billionaire quickly reacted to this incident, publishing several messages on X on this subject. In one, he claims that “the evil goons chose the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack.” “The Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Even the glass doors in the lobby were not broken,” he added.
A durable pick-up
Musk's message was accompanied by a post from independent journalist Nick Sortor showing a Fox News video, in which Las Vegas police provide details of the explosion, with the exterior of the Cybertruck largely intact.
“The fact that it was a Cybertruck really limited the damage… In fact, if you watch the video, you'll see that the glass doors of the Trump Hotel weren't even broken by the explosion”, explains Kevin McMahill, sheriff of the Las Vegas police.
In a previous publication, Elon Musk had also assured that the explosion, which resulted in the death of a person in the Cybertruck, was “not linked to the vehicle itself”, but had been caused ” by large fireworks and/or a bomb.
If the Cybertruck, with its angular design and stainless steel body, is very durable, this particularity is the reason why it is not available in Europe. Due to its rigidity, Tesla's pick-up raises concerns regarding the safety of passengers, but also pedestrians and cyclists during a collision. The fact that a vehicle deforms makes it possible to absorb a part generated by the shock, and thus cushion the latter for the passengers.
