Two women died this Wednesday, January 1, 2025 in the same sector of the Pyrenees located in Haute-Garonne, in Occitanie. The accidents took place within hours of each other.

The first accident took place early in the morning at Boutx. A 33-year-old woman had gone hiking, accompanied by two other people with insufficient equipment according to the CRS at the Luchon aid station in Haute-Garonne. She died after falling 300 meters. The helicopter from the aerial section of the Tarbes gendarmerie found her unresponsive.
33 and 46 years old
The second accident also occurred near the Cagire peak, in the commune ofArguenos. A 46-year-old woman, who left with her partner, killed herself in the same circumstances. Around 2:45 p.m., emergency services found his lifeless body.
Very slippery area
The snow, which became ice, became very slippery in the area. “We had snowfall, then it rained and it froze with the temperatures, we have to be vigilant”recalled the CRS.

Autopsies
The Saint-Gaudens prosecutor's office requested autopsies in order to determine the exact causes of these two deaths, according to The Dispatch. She was entrusted to the CRS of Luchon.

The mayors of the two municipalities of Boutx and Arguenos where the two inanimate bodies were found are currently considering issuing one-off orders prohibiting dangerous access.
