More than 5,500 pieces of fireworks were seized during the night of New Year’s Eve by the Brussels North police zone (Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode), indicates the latter in a press release released Wednesday.
This significant seizure took place from a private individual in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, who held more than 5,300 pieces. “The other seizures took place on people or in vehicles traveling on public roads. Among the seized fireworks, two particularly dangerous batteries of 200 and 360 shots were discovered“, details the police. Several interventions also took place in order to stop the illegal use of these fireworks.
“The use of these pyrotechnic devices is particularly dangerous for the people who use them, but they are also unfortunately used against police officers and firefighters. This was again the case during New Year’s Eve“, regrets the police zone.
The seized pyrotechnic devices will be destroyed in partnership with the FPS Economy.
The possession, transport and use of firecrackers and fireworks are prohibited in the Brussels-Capital Region in order to preserve safety and limit the risk of incidents.
