France will go from 2024 to 2025 with calm weather and seasonal temperatures, according to Météo-France.
Mist and fog in the plains, sun in the mountains and around the Mediterranean are expected over the coming days.
Then, more low-pressure conditions settling in over the British Isles could influence the weather in France.
Not much to report weather-wise for the last days of 2024. In his bulletin (new window) dated this Friday, December 27, Météo-France predicts a “quiet end of year”. The anticyclonic conditions which are settling in the country will favor “calm weather shared between sometimes stubborn gray weather in the plains and mostly sunny weather in the mountains and around the Mediterranean basin”explains the meteorological institute. “As we transition between 2024 and 2025 however, the situation will begin to change with more low-pressure conditions setting in over the British Isles and potentially eventually influencing the weather in France.”
Rain for the New Year?
On Saturday, gray weather will reach the Paris region but the sun will shine in the southwest plains (in the afternoon) and in the eastern half (except in the Saône Valley and locally in the Alsace plain). “Sunday and Monday will see an extension of the gray area over a major part of the French plains, thus reserving the sun for mountain areas and Mediterranean beaches”indicates Météo-France.
It is then that the transition to more turbulent weather will be observed. Wednesday January 1, for the first day of the year 2025, rain may arrive in the evening from the Channel and the North Sea as the disturbed flow descending from the British Isles approaches. “This risk of rain should extend to the northern half of the country on Thursday, associated with milder air, leading to a rise in temperatures above seasonal norms for the very first days of January”explains the institute again.
