This is good news for the majority of French people. Indeed, according to data from the Banque de France, around 80% of wallets will receive a bank transfer on December 31. The latter corresponds to the annual interest on the Livret A, set at 3% until January.
From February 1, the interest on this savings account, still among the French's favorites, will be reduced to 2.5% due to the drop in inflation, announced Eric Lombard, the new Minister of the Economy.
Still according to information from the Bank of France, the French keep on average 7,077 euros in the Livret A. This sum therefore corresponds to a transfer of approximately 212 euros for December 31. The wording of this transfer should be “net remuneration”. The ceiling for Livret A is still set at 22,950 euros. Last year, 200 euros of interest was, on average, paid to the French.
Other regulated savings accounts will also earn you interest on the same day. You will therefore receive another bank transfer if you have an LDDS (sustainable and solidarity development booklet) with a ceiling of 12,000 euros, a youth booklet with a maximum of 1,200 euros or a LEP (popular savings booklet) where a maximum of 7,700 euros can be placed. According to data from the BPCE Observatory carried out with the Audirep Institute, the savings rate should remain very high in 2024, at 17.9%, compared to an average of 14.6% from 2010 to 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.
