Thibaut Courtois attended the Globe Awards in the Middle East on Friday. There he won the Player Career Award, and spoke about the Red Devils.

Thibaut Courtois completes his trophy cabinet: he won the Player Career Award at the Globe Soccer Awards on Friday. However, he was unable to win any prizes with the Red Devils, he also talked about that.

He sat down next to Cristiano Ronaldo for an interview. Towards the end he spoke briefly about his period with the Red Devils, which he will no longer reveal for the time being. He started by looking back at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“The coach with whom we had the most success, Roberto Martínez, is now the national coach of the man next to me. With him we had a very good series. But unfortunately things went wrong at the 2018 World Cup, in the semi-final against at a standstill,” he said, according to HLN.

“This far into the tournament it is all about seizing your moments. We did not do that at the 2016 European Championship, when we lost to Wales. We have never actually had that winning culture in Belgium, as you have at big clubs such as Real Madrid. But you do need that aspect to go far at the European Championships or World Cup,” he continues.

The goalkeeper criticizes the lack of winning mentality in Belgium. “For the same reason, it is not always easy to drop down to the national team. Because you come from a club that always wants to win, to an environment where that mentality is not always there. Where you do not always feel that more is possible. In other words, we didn’t seize our moment. That will be a scar forever.”
