Vincent Lagaf: his moving face-to-face with his biological mother

Guest on the show “Legend” this December 25, Vincent Lagaf opened his heart about a significant stage in his life: the search for his biological mother. While he was filming a film near Bernay, the comedian decided to take a step forward by knocking on the door of the woman who had abandoned him. But what he hoped would be a moment of reconciliation turned into disappointment. “It’s my biggest sorrow, my biggest bout of tears,” says the presenter, before describing the scene: “I said to her: “Are you Lucienne?” She said to me: “Yes”. I said to her: “Can I speak to you?”, she replied: “No sir, I want you to leave my house”, he says, still moved.

Turned away at the door, Lagaf is overwhelmed by a feeling of profound rejection. “I went back into the car and there I cried, I didn’t know a man could cry like that,” he confides. At the urging of his partner Nathalie, he tries a final approach by making a phone call. This time, the conversation takes another turn. “I said to her: 'Madame, you have just sent me away… I was born on October 30, 1959 and my name was Franck.' She goes, “Oh my God, I knew I would see you again one day.”

The two end up meeting in a public place to talk for six hours. Vincent Lagaf then learns details about his past and his mother's heartbreaking decision. “I was not a child of love, but a child who was loved. She realized that she didn't have the means and that the best future she could give me was for me to be adopted by a family that did.” Despite this exchange, Vincent Lagaf will never see his biological mother again, respecting her request for discretion until her death.
