In the process, the Brussels residents put in good pressure in the Ghent camp. Ivanovic threw Promise deep, before the attacker beat Roef. VAR intervened again for a potential offside position but the goal was ultimately awarded.
Sébastien Pocognoli's men then returned to the locker room leading the score, but lost Boufal to injury, replaced by El Hadj.
At the start of the second half, Ivanovic came up against Roef after a magnificent move from El Hadj. But in the following corner, the Ghent goalkeeper completely missed and saw Sykes double the lead with a header.
A few minutes later, Sadiki found El Hadj in the area. The former Anderlecht player fired a powerful shot in a time that left Roef no chance. Completely stunned, the people of Ghent saw Castro-Montes pass close to the fourth on two occasions but the post decided otherwise.
The fourth goal of the game was finally Ghent's since Gudjohnsen, who had just entered the game, reduced the gap by being on the receiving end of a good cross from the left.
