“The toll of this unspeakable act is very heavy.”
On his account more seriously than others).
“Once again, human life seems paltry in the face of weapons, blind violence, wrote the Ajaccian councilor, on the morning of Tuesday, December 24, on the social network. I hope for a rapid response from the police and the justice system, without forgetting that it is also up to us to fight collectively against these evils which are plaguing our society and threatening our youth, destroying destinies and families.”
A little later, Gilles Simeoni also made a post on the same network.
“In one week we went from joy to tragedy, declares the president of the executive council. Aiacciu and Corsica mourn one of their children, whose life was cut short, and several seriously injured. The time has come for mourning. There will necessarily come that of collective reflection to put an end to this madness.”
Other elected officials, such as the mayor of Bonifacio, expressed their emotion. “Even as I write these words, I struggle to realize the horrible folly of this act.posted on X Jean-Charles Orsucci. A young islander fell victim to ordinary, gratuitous and unbearable violence, while others suffer in their flesh. We are all devastated and angry at this umpteenth tragedy.”
The Bishop of Corsica and Cardinal, François-Xavier Bustillo, also reacted to X. “Corsica shone by welcoming Pope Francis, he wrote in a press release. Tonight the violence darkened our joy […]. I think of our youth. I am thinking of the families of the young person who died and the injured. I pray for them. Violence and death cannot guide our future. The spirit of Christmas must touch our tormented society to generate peace and hope.”
Certain words of the cardinal were notably taken up by the territorial advisor Romain Colonna.
“In the face of insanity, fear and tragedy, all our sad thoughts are towards this young man, the wounded and their grieving families on this Christmas Eve, wrote the elected of Femu a Corsica. It is up to us collectively to defend, more than ever, the absolute right to life, joy and well-being for all the children of Corsica.”
For Juien Morganti, municipal councilor in opposition in Bastia, “Corsica is plunged into a tragedy, a structural evil that is eating away at us from the inside.” And the elected official added: “This violence is daily. Drugs, money, weapons,… our society is in bad shape. The response must be collective otherwise the youth will be left to their own devices.”
A tribute to the victim, a professional firefighter, was also paid by the Corse-du-Sud Fire and Rescue Service which “bows to his memory and sends our sincere condolences and support to his family, his loved ones and all his comrades”.
Known in the world of sport, and in particular in boxing where he had fought as an amateur, Pierre-Louis Giorgi, known as “Pilou”, was a resident of the Ring Ajaccien, which published his photo on its social networks.
These dramatic events that occurred inside the Lamparo bar on Monday evening also had consequences on certain demonstrations.
“Due to the tragic event that occurred yesterday”the Ajaccio town hall also announced the exceptional closure of the “gastronomy zone” of the Christmas market for the day of this Tuesday.
Other downtown businesses have also decided to lower their curtains. Some events have also been canceled in the Ajaccian hinterland, including a concert scheduled for today at 1 p.m. at the Sarrola-Carcopino Christmas market.
