The person shot Sunday evening near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht is in stable condition. It is likely that he was a collateral victim in this shooting which cost the life of a 28-year-old man, the Brussels prosecutor's office said on Monday.

A patrol in the Brussels-Midi area was alerted on Sunday around 8:50 p.m. by two passers-by shortly after the attack. The police discovered two victims at the scene with gunshot wounds, one of them seriously. Witnesses were trying to resuscitate her when the police arrived, the public prosecutor said. The 28-year-old man, however, died from his injuries.
The second victim was taken to hospital. “His condition is currently stable and his life is not in danger.“, the prosecution said on Monday. “According to the first elements of the investigation, it seems that the injured victim is probably a collateral victim.”
The federal police laboratory, a forensic doctor and a ballistic expert were dispatched to the scene. The public prosecutor opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder and appointed an investigating judge. Shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting.
