Annie Genevard was confirmed as Minister of Agriculture. The announcement, made Monday December 23, during the presentation of François Bayrou's government, is not really a surprise. His renewal was expected.
Appointed to this position three months ago by Michel Barnier, the former deputy (Les Républicains, LR) of Doubs, also former vice-president of the National Assembly, very quickly took up burning agricultural issues. Whether it is the health crisis affecting sheep and cattle farms, or the cash flow problems of cereal growers – affected by poor wheat harvests –, without forgetting the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay).
Annie Genevard announced a compensation plan for breeders affected by the health crisis, consolidation loans to improve cash flow and simplification measures. Above all, it took up the demands of the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA), formulated during the demonstrations organized at the start of the year and reiterated during smaller mobilization movements carried out from of November. Moreover, in her speech delivered on September 23 on the steps of the hotel on rue de Varenne, during the transfer of power with her predecessor Marc Fesneau, she formulated the antiphons of the agricultural union.
