François Bayrou had promised a government “before Christmas”here it is. His team was announced Monday evening, December 23, after more than a week of consultations and negotiations between the new Prime Minister and the political parties. As for Michel Barnier's short-lived team, the list of 14 ministers and 21 delegate ministers was presented by the secretary general of the Elysée, Alexis Kohler.
The new government, led by centrist François Bayrou, long-time supporter of Emmanuel Macron, ally of Macronist, centrist and right-wing figures. Bruno Retailleau and Rachida Dati are reappointed, respectively to Interior and Culture. François Bayrou did not manage to poach any left-wing figures, but he recruited two former socialists, Manuel Valls and François Rebsamen. On the right, he ultimately did not recruit Xavier Bertrand either, because of pressure from the National Rally. Here is the complete composition of the government in protocol order.
