This Saturday, December 21, Gad Elmaleh was invited to What an era! to promote his new show Himself. Léa Salamé took the opportunity to question him about his close relationship with his parents, triggering laughter from the studio of the France 2 show.
Gad Elmaleh has never hidden it, he is very close to his parents, Régine and David. He often draws inspiration from them to write his sketches and they were at the center of his film Stay a little (2022), a semi-autobiographical story about his relationship with religion. This Saturday, December 21, the comedian was one of the guests of What an era! to talk about his new show Himself. During the France 2 show, the father of Noé and Raphaël spoke about his loved ones to Léa Salamé. Always with humor, Gad Elmaleh revealed what he still cannot say to his mom and dad.
Gad Elmaleh admits he still lies to his parents
Even at 53 and with a resounding career since the 1990s, Gad Elmaleh still lies to his parents. The reasons? He can't always tell them how much money he spends without receiving a little criticism. “When my parents ask me the price of things, there is a 'parent price' and there is an official price. It’s c**, but it’s an education thing”explains the actor. He specifies that “even after 50 years”he “finds himself inventing stories to make people believe” to his mother that he “makes a deal” and that he had “something in an incredible way”. These little lies give rise to funny situations which did not fail to make the public and the presenters of the France 2 show laugh. One day, his mother asked him how much he had bought a dishwasher for. “They gave it to me when I bought the microwave”replied Gad Elmaleh. “I invent”he admits before citing another story with his dad. The comedian explains that he is “fan of contemporary art”. In front of one of his paintings, his father exclaimed that his son “had to pay at least 1,000 euros for that”. To which the young grandfather reacted with sarcasm: “Dad, give me some respect anyway.”
Gad Elmaleh bought the Parisian cabaret Chez Michou
It is an institution of the Parisian nightlife that has been saved. Chez Michou had closed its doors on July 1, 2024 for financial reasons. But Gad Elmaleh was chosen by the courts to buy the business of this legendary cabaret in the capital. Unsurprisingly, the actor plans to do “a place of comedy and humor, while keeping the soul of the place”as indicated by the actor's communications department. Very good news for culture!
