The American made a much-noticed comeback and then spoke about her reasons.
“It was so cool, I had so much fun,” said an overjoyed Lindsey Vonn in an interview with SRF after her 14th place in the Super-G in St. Moritz. The American, who made her return after an absence of almost 6 years, started timidly but then noticeably improved. “I was definitely a little nervous,” she admitted. At first she couldn't find the rhythm. “I forgot a few things, everything was a bit hectic today.”
In the last few days and weeks after Vonn announced her comeback, there were some very hateful and personal comments. When asked about her motives, the now 40-year-old replied: “It's fun, it's very easy. I love skiing.” She is older, “but not that old either. I can do this.” Her body is now stronger than it was in the last few years of her career.

When it comes to risk, Vonn also has a pointed opinion: “Racing is dangerous, that’s true for everyone – whether you’re 40, 18 or 30.” It's fun – and that's it. “People talked so much nonsense – I don’t give a shit,” Vonn said bluntly.
Cortina 2026 remains in the back of our minds
When asked about her further goals, she said that she was doing “the full program” this season. The 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina are also in the back of her mind, but she doesn't want to look too far ahead. “I have to enjoy the moment – if that’s possible, that would be great.”
Vonn has also marked the 2025 World Cup in Saalbach in February on her agenda. And she makes a promising statement: “It may be that that is also a goal,” she said mischievously. She has only trained for 20 days this season – the competition should be warned when Vonn starts in February with a few World Cup races under her belt.
